Athletics / Recognitions

ESPN, where are you?  The DHS Varsity softball team, now with five wins and no losses, deserves a highlight! Kortney Simon pitched a shutout win last week against East Lansing; in support, the Panthers put up 11 runs, 10 hits, and ZERO defensive errors. Nikki Willard picked up the 7 to 5 win in game two where the Panthers knocked out 12 hits and committed only ONE defensive error.  Your varsity Panthers then marched on to become the CHAMPIONS of last weekend’s East Lansing Invitational Tournament. Cassie Vilella led the Panthers to victory on 9 of 11 hitting and an on-base average of .833.  Mattie Leece and Erica Lee each contributed five RBIs, and Kilee Way-Walton smacked a triple and a HOMERUN! Nikki Willard and McKenna May pitched the Panthers to their first win of the tournament, allowing only 2 runs against East Lansing. Kortney Simon tossed a 3-hit, 1-run win in game two against Mason, and a dominating near shutout 1-run, 5-strikeout win in the championship game against Berkley. Congratulations to your UNDEFEATED VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM.

An impressive start for both the Varsity and JV girls soccer teams with the varsity record of 5-0 and the JV with a 4-1.  The varsity team started the season with a solid win against Okemos 3-0, next beating Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern 4-2, another impressive win against three peat state champs Gull Lake 3-1, this past Tuesday a 6-1 win against Holt and last night beating last years state finalist Fenton 3-2.  Next game is the Williamston shootout for both teams.  Come out and support the ladies!

Any DeWitt Varsity Football players signed up to participate in the Clinton County Clean Up on Saturday, April 30th, need to have their volunteer release form filled out and turned in to Coach Wilson by Friday, April 29th.  If the form is not turned in prior to Saturday, you will not be able to participate.  Also see Coach Wilson for additional information on the event.
