Hurricane Harvey Donation Drive

Thank you to everyone who contributed!  The drive was an amazing success and the items are going directly to families in need.  We were impressed with the amount of generosity displayed by our great community.  The race for the top was a close one:  in 3rd place was Mrs. Blake’s seminar; in 2nd place was Mr. Nolen’s seminar; and the first place finisher was Mr. Thelen’s seminar.  Thank you everyone!(9/22)

The DeWitt Math Club will hold its first meeting this Friday during seminar in Room 238.  Please see Mr. Servis in Room 112 for information about this opportunity. (9/20 - 9/22)

Spanish Club We have our first meeting FRIDAY, September 22 in room 128 (That’s Mrs. Marble’s room) during seminar. Spanish club is open to all students with an interest in Spanish language and cultures. If you are a member or would like to join, we’d love to see you at the meeting!  (9/22)

Attention Mathematicians!:  The 61st Annual Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition is coming soon.  The first exam is Tuesday, October 10th during 2nd Block.  You must sign up by Monday, September 25th to participate.  There is a $4 cost for the competition.  To get more information and/or to sign up, see Mrs. Ezze in Room 223.

APES- please meet outside the main doors at 11:05 for our Looking Glass River Research.  Be at the river at 11:15.

All Students interested in ART Club.  Come to our first meeting of the school year, this Wednesday (Sept. 20th) in Ms. Norman’s classroom, 301.  We are ready to start on projects and need to get information to all of you.  Please be there.  Attendance will be taken and list will be sent out to teachers.     Student Services

Applications are now available in Student Services for students interested in tutoring.   We are still in need of tutors!  

Seniors - if you have not turned in the consent for access to student transcript form, please do so TODAY.  Your transcript will not be sent to colleges and universities until we have this signed form turned in.

College Visits - Seniors - The following colleges and universities will be visiting during September:  Baker College is here today during Seminar. University of Michigan will be here on Friday.  Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College and the University of Chicago and Lawrence Tech are scheduled in September.  Western Michigan University and Central Michigan University will be doing onsite admissions in October.  Sign up in Student Services.

Sophomores - Interested in gaining valuable leadership skills?  Then consider applying to participate in the annual HOBY Leadership Conference.  You must provide an essay to be considered. 1-2 students will be selected to represent DHS.  See Student Services!

Athletics / Recognitions

Congratulations to the girls golf team: The girls beat Haslett last night with a great score of 154. Elaina DeRose led the way with a two under par 34, followed by Mackenzie Smith with a 39.  Close behind were Lexie Brya with a 40 and Morgan Colby with a 41.  We think this may be a school record and are trying to find out.  Great job girls!

Congratulations to the Equestrian Team...  CHAMPIONS!   First place in District IV in the D Division! Next goal is to win Districts and head to Regional Competition September 30th!

ATTENTION GIRLS INTERESTED IN PLAYING SOFTBALL: There will be an informational meeting for the 2018 season on WEDNESDAY September 20th during Seminar in Coach Nolen’s Room 237.  Make plans to attend. (9/20)

Congrats to the Girls’ Cross Country team The panthers won the first league jamboree here on their home course last evening.  The lady panthers were led by Katie Vitou, Ashley Shipps, Hannah Adler, Sofia Perez, Stephanie Robinson, Kaitlyn Hynes, and Delaney Kirinovic.

ATTENTION GIRLS INTERESTED IN PLAYING BASKETBALL: Conditioning workouts are taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at the track from 3-4. If you are not playing a Fall sport, you should definitely be there! Also, be sure to have your completed physical on file with Mrs. Wilson in the athletic office before November. You cannot participate in tryouts without a physical. (9/20 - 9/25)

ATTENTION FRESHMAN GIRLS INTERESTED IN PLAYING BASKETBALL: There will be a meeting on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd during seminar in Coach Alger’s room, room 131.  Anyone planning on playing freshman basketball this winter should plan to attend. (9/20-9/22)
