Matt Dodson - Principal
I am honored and humbled to introduce myself as Principal of DeWitt High School. Thank you for this opportunity to serve the community in which I was raised.
I am a proud graduate of DeWitt High School (Class of 1997) and have lived in DeWitt since 1989. I completed my post-secondary schooling at Hope College, Western Michigan University, and Spring Arbor University with studies in the English Language Arts, History, and Education Leadership. I am encouraged that over the past 25 years DeWitt has never lost its small community climate and culture.
As a high school student, I was very fortunate to have participated in theatrical productions, choir, athletics, and a variety of clubs. I believe that providing a diverse set of extra-curricular offerings while encouraging participation in multiple activities is essential to the development and success of our students.
DeWitt High School continues to provide students with an outstanding education. My guiding principles are rooted in what is best for our students, our school, and our community. Through valuable and strong connections with ALL students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders, I look forward to the work that is necessary to promote, encourage, and cultivate excellence at DHS.
I am honored to join DeWitt High School as your new assistant principal. I bring 17 years of experience in education as both a teacher and administrator in Marshall, and I am excited to begin the next chapter of my career here in DeWitt.
My fiancée, Becky, and I have four children. Two are currently in college, and our younger two will be attending DeWitt Middle School. As a family, we enjoy cheering on our kids in track, cross country, football, basketball, and lacrosse, and when we’re not at a sporting event, we love traveling together in our RV.
I feel truly fortunate to be joining such a welcoming and supportive school community. DeWitt High School is already an exceptional place for students to learn and grow, and it is a privilege to now call it our home.
As assistant principal, my goal is to continue supporting the outstanding work already happening here. I am committed to helping our students grow into thoughtful, responsible citizens while reaching their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
Together, with students, staff, and families, I look forward to building on the strong foundation that makes DHS such a special place.
Marie Richards - Assistant Principal
Marie is beginning her 11th year as an Assistant Principal with this being her second year at DeWitt High School. Ms. Richards is originally from Saginaw, Michigan where she also attended Saginaw Valley State University to earn her teaching degree in secondary education.
Later, Ms. Richards earned her Master's Degree from Michigan State University while she was teaching language arts and social studies in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It was awesome teaching near the beach!
Previously, Marie served as the Assistant Principal/Academic Advisor at Sacred Heart Academy in Mount Pleasant. Marie really enjoys being an Assistant Principal at DHS and believes it is the best place to work because of the amazing students and staff.
In her spare time, Marie likes to travel, go on long walks, read, listen to podcasts, spend time with family and friends, and watch sports.
